The Enchanted Tail History
Victoria Robertson was commissioned to write The Enchanted Tail by the Port Ludlow Performing Arts, Washington State, in February 2017. The show received great reviews and the kids responded enthusiastically to the performance. After being hired back for a second performance the following year, Robertson knew that this could be a much bigger project.
“I think there is a very strong desire to have music and live theatrical performances available for kids and families. This is especially true since there is less and less music education in the schools. In a world of digital technology and pop music, it is nice to keep culturing children by exposing them to classical music in a way that is fun and not intimidating or boring. I think we have really achieved that with our fun show The Enchanted Tail. See…Opera can be fun!”, said Robertson.
Robertson teamed up with two other incredibly talented musicians in the San Diego area to bring The Enchanted Tail to life.
The Enchanted Tail
Story Synopsis
Once upon a time, a happy woodsman was singing through the forest. The Witch of the Woods, upset with being woken up, turned him into a Fox so that he could no longer sing!
While the sad Fox was sulking around the forest, he met a beautiful Princess who was collecting items from the forest to make a magic brew. The Princess was also under a spell from the witch... that every time that she sang... she fell asleep! Fortunately, she found a recipe for a magic brew that would cure her sleeping spell.
The Fox discovered that he could sing when he put on the Princess’s crown. He could only do this when she fell asleep! After shooing away the sly Fox, upset that he was trying to steal her crown, the Princess later realized that she needed a Fox’s tail as the last ingredient to finish her magic brew!
The two danced around each other in a hilarious, interactive original fairytale. In the end, they ended up working together to cure both of their spells and they rule the forest as King and Queen.
